Christmas and Birthday

December 29th, 2014

So this week was pretty awesome. I don't remember when I've eaten so much in my life. Seriously. Everyone wanted us to eat with them. Soooo full. We actually didn't have to buy food last week and this week we're gonna be able to go without food as well just cuz of all the stuff people have given us.

But we had a good day in church yesterday, we had 7 people asist! It was awesome! And a lot of them people thought that they were already members haha.

Getting pretty busy here, they ask us to do a lot of things now on Mondays on the computer there's almost no time for it all. But I hope you all enjoyed you christmas and that you all enjoy a very happy new year!

Merry Christmas!!!!

December 22nd, 2014

Well this week was pretty fun. We got together as the whole mission. If you went to the mission Mexico Reynosa page on Facebook, you probably found a pretty funny picture of me while we were playing some games.

Sooo You remember Jaime? He almost told us that he didn't want to keep listening to us. The word of wisdom is super hard for him. We taught it to him this week. Mainly because he drinks and smokes. Drinking he said he can stop when he wants, but he's not sure if he can stop smoking. The good this is that he wants to. We're gonna help him though. He couldn't go to church for a commitment that he had from before but he'll be back next week.

This sunday was pretty cool. Members of the chorus of the stake that are from our ward sang in the sacrament meeting then the whole stake chorus came to our ward after to sing in three different houses and all the members that lived close by went to those houses to listen to some carols. They actually sang really good, some of the best singing I've heard here in Mexico haha.

Well this christmas should be a good one for us, we've been invited to like 5 different places to eat so we'll see how that goes. At least we won't go hungry haha. I've been told twice now that I've gained weight in the past year but oh well. You only mission once!

Well I love you all and hope that you have a wonderfully merry christmas!

Elder Warren

Another awesome week!

December 15th, 2014

Well something pretty cool that happened was that Jaime came to church again and accepted a baptismal date! He also has plans to get married this week! The Lord works in Mysterious ways.

We also found a family super awesome. They invited us to a barbeque yesterday and just had a ton of questions for us and told us that people are never able to answer his questions so we said, well we'll be able to answer all of them. And we did! He's a really nice guy and wants us to come over every day to teach his kids how to be better haha. He also said he'd give us food whenever we came over which is pretty cool haha.

Other than that well slowly we're progressing in the area, not digressing. (not sure if that's how it's spelled. I've gotten horrible at spelling since I've gone on the mission). We had 4 good investigators in church this sunday that we feel are going to be able to get baptized. The time I have I feel like is slipping between my fingers. Like, just going by way to fast.

Well I love you all, everything is going great here, My companion is awesome, love my zone, and I love the mission!

Take care everyone! Until next week,

Love,
Elder Warren

Another week goes by

December 8th, 2014

Sooo this week was pretty cool!

Do you remember about the guy I told you about last week that we contacted that didn't want anything at first but then later told us that he wanted us to pass by with him? Well we went and he was there! He let us in and we taught him twice last week and he showed up to church! That was the best part! I feel like the Lord has really prepared this man to listen to the gospel. He isn't married but to get his pension, he needs a wedding certificate so he's already saving money to get married! Pretty awesome.

Transfer week just happened. There was only one change, Elder Palma that lived with us in the same house is leaving. Actually he's already left and Elder De Los Santos is comming here. Also, in another area we have in the zone, they are recieving two extra missionaries.

This week we didn't work that much because we had to go to Reynosa tuesday and Wednesday for a leadership training meeting and sunday we pretty much didn't work because of the Chritsmas Broadcast which was pretty awesome, I love hearing the music from the Tabernacle.

Oh yeah, some exciting news! I'm now going to be arriving home Februrary 10th! So be prepared!

Love you all!

Happy Thanksgiving!

December 1st, 2014

Well, we were invited by probably the only family in our ward to joing them for Thanksgiving dinner! That was pretty nice! I'll admit, I saw the interception by the SeaHawks. But pretty much that was it. Still stayin focused.

Yesterday something pretty awesome happened. So we were knocking on the door of a reference that we were trying to contact and a man steped out of his house next door to smoke a cigarette. The reference didn't answer the door so we went and started talking to this guy and it started out like it wouldn't be someone interested at all. Saying that you don't need to go to a church to worship God and that all the churches are full of hypocrites anyway and just want your money so he gave lots examples of how the churches are bad and we told him that it's not like that in the church that we represent, in every example. Then we breifly shared what we teach, that God has restored the authority to perform all of the ordinances again through a prophet. Then he asked "how could you believe such a thing as that?" So I said, "well, I prayed. And God told me through the Holy Ghost that these things are true." He replied, "What, so you can see God?" I said, "no. I prayed that's all. Do you believe that God can answer your prayers?" (Earlier in the conversation we had afirmed that he believes in the Bible, but that it has been changed a lot.) He said, "no, I don't think so." I replied, "Well Actually God can give us wisdom! As it says in Santiago 1:5" (I recited the scripture) then I bore my testimony again but with more power. He just kind of stood there a minute then said, "You know what, I'd like to talk with you guys. There's something different about you." We put an appointment to visit him thursday. Something I learned from that was that sometimes we try to hard using evidence to convince people of the truth and forget that the Holy Ghost is what testifies to them that these things are true. It wasn't until i really shared my testimony with him that he accepted to listen to us, because he felt something different and noticed our percistance. Pretty cool experience.

One things for sure, you never stop learning! I mean, we will never reach a perfect knowledge in this life, but we should try to get as close as we can! Cuz it's a commandment! No one is saved in ignorance.

Hey, I love you all. Hope you enjoyed your American Turkey and Gravy and Football! I'll be there for the next one! haha.

Cuídense mucho! Les amo!

Con amor,
Elder Warren

Keep getting better

November 24th, 2014

So something that I liked about this week was that we had continual improvement. Something that we put more effort into this week was pray that we would find people that have been prepared by the lord to listen and accept this message, and we´ve been able to find some good people! One guy came to church pretty much all on his own! We contacted him looking for someone else, and invited him to church. It was like any other  person, "oh well If I have time, I'll stop by there." What we didn't know, is that he has a cousin that goes to church! When his cousing saw him walk into church I think he was pretty suprised! That's why you should always invite people to church and give references! Because then the missionaries find them on their own and you'll say, "aww I could have given him as a reference but I never did.." Don't pre-judge anyone! So the way we found him was pretty cool. We contacted a lady on the corner and she said that she doesn't live here, she was visiting her mom. We asked where her mom lived and she kind of told us where she lived. It was something like, "Down that street, the second house after the white house." so yeah, we didn't find it haha. We knocked on one that we thought would be it but no one was home. So we went with the neighbor who was the guy that showed up to church this sunday. Pretty cool.

So this week had some nice blessings in it. We had more investigators in the sacrament meeting which was a blessing as well. I just feel better when people go to church. If they don't go to church, I just feel sad. But not un-excited! It just excited to work even harder the next week!

Time is flying by and I'm just not trying to think about how much time I really have left. I just want to work hard just as if it were any other day and it's still not time to think about home but I also have to plan at least a little what I'm gonna do when I get home. So options for work I'm still open to them! Tyler gave me a pretty nice offer that I'm considering, thanks man.

I just love the happy feeling that the spirit gives, and I hate the feeling that you have when the spirit leaves. I just want to have the spirit always, because that's how you can really be happy!

Hope you all have a wonderfull week!

A good, but cold week

November 17th, 2014

Yeah, so the first northern wind came in this week and it got pretty cold, like down to 40 which here is cold. Especially because no one has heating in their house. But we had a pretty good week that was guided by the spirit. we were able to find some good investigators, including a young couple with a little 4 year old daughter. They were a reference from a member and we went and told us about some problems that they are having in their marraige that stem from the fact that the husband started drinking. So we're here to save the day! The good part is is that they want to come to church and want to change, the both of them. But when we got to their house Sunday morning to take them, they weren't there. They also didn't answer the phone the whole morning. It was kind of frustrating, when you see people that need to change, and even want to change and do the things we ask, and then they don't do them. We actually didn't have that many people in church this week on sunday so we're gonna be teaching a lot of Sabath day this week.

I feel good though besides that people didn't come to church this week. The other Elders in our ward had 12 investigators in church yesterday so we are trying to figure out what we need to do different/better. And on top of that, we have our zone to worry about. I'm starting to understand a little of how the leaders of the church feel. Also, the mission has helped me understand how important it is that the church is organized, because there's quite a bit of disorganization here and I don't know, I feel good that I've been able to help at least a little organize the church here and edify it.

Next week is going to be much better. I mean, slowly, we're improving, step by step. But pretty soon, we'll be killin it here. It's my time to shine!

Well, hope you all have a wonderfull week and hope your not freezing up there!

Another week down.

November 10th, 2014

Hey family! So this was a pretty good week. We only worked about three days though because we had to go to Reynosa Tuesday and Wednesday for Leadesrhip counsel. We had people go to church this sunday but there still isn't anyone that is like super ready to get baptised. We need to keep looking. They're out there and this week we're gonna find em! Also, Elder Gomez is just hilarious. He makes me laugh everyday. I think he's the funniest companion I've had so far.

Soo the mission secretary called me and asked me what airport I'm going home to and told me that they are going to try and buy tickets for the 17th of Februrary. Soo that's the day most probable that I will be comming home. It's not official yet though. But very probable.
Well, I love you all very much, sorry that these emails are so short, it just feels like there's almost no time to write anymore!

Well, hope you have an excelent week everyone!

First week in Las Torres!

November 3rd, 2014

Well this area is pretty cool! There´s lots of work here! Also my companion is pretty awesome! He is teaching me a ton of stuff! He's just not afraid of anything and we're killing it here with the help of the Lord! So everything is going well to divide the ward, we just have to retain all the people that are here and it will be able to divide.

This week was spent getting to know the members here to be able to work with them and also finding investigators. We found 12! A lot! but there aren't that many that are going to progress of the ones that we found. Also, we didn't have any investigators in church. But this week we're going to bring members with all of our investigators so that they can invite them themselves and then the members bring them to church. That's how it should be anyways.

It's been a pretty awesome week. Sorry, but I've ran out of time. I'm going to write better things next week!

Here's my new address to send me stuff!

Transfers!!!!!!

October 27th, 2014

Yup!! You heard right, even though Elder Holman has been here for about 6 months in Modelo and me just 3, Elder Holman is going to stay there again and I'm going to a new ward! So Elder Holman is going to be able to die in peace there in Modelo ward on the 25th of November. I will be going to the Torres ward which is in the same city of Matamoros but a different zone. I'm gonna keep being a zone leader and my companion's name is Elder Gomez, he was in my district while I was in Valle Hermoso. We are going to be opening the area because president is moving where the zone leaders are going to be. So we are going to Torres because they want us to divide the ward to make two stakes in Matamoros. So that's like my last asignment here in the mission is to divide Torres ward. And I say, mission accepted haha.

Also, something super awesome is that Elder Hancock, my son, is going to be in my zone as a district leader! Super excited!

So this last week was pretty interesting. My companion and one of the other missionaries in the house got sick, but luckily I didn't get sick which is weird because usually if someone is sick around me, I get the same thing. So it was kind of interesting work this week, we couldn't do too much because Me and the other missionary in the house that wasn't sick we went out and worked for the two areas. The good part is that the 4 that got babptized last week, recieved the gift of the Holy Ghost this sunday and the two brothers recieved the Aaronic priesthood. It's been amazing to see how much that family has changes in these weeks that we've known them. Just changing lives here. No big deal.

But I gotta go now guys, Hope you all have a wonderfull week!

A week of baptisms!

October 20th, 2014

Well this week was pretty awesome! Some pretty cool stuff happened. First of all, we had 4 baptisms yesterday! It felt so good to finally have a baptism again. But yeah, Hermano Carlos and his sister in law and her family got baptised yesterday! It's been awesome to see their progress and to finally see them take this step that lets them keep advancing just excites me so much! Hermano Carlos has been going to church for almost a year now but seeing how his family was progressing being taught, he decided that it would be a good idea to get baptised as well!

Sooo, funny story, while we were preparing the little 8 year old for baptism this week, we taught him the word of wisdom. So we were teaching him the things that we should consume, then we asked him, Okay Oscar, so what can't you eat or drink? And he started saying, umm popcorn that fell on the floor, coffee, poisenos mushrooms.. oh man, we were just laughing like crazy. Oscar is hilarious!

So Apolonia, the other sister in the family was going to get baptised, but she had some problems with coffee. So she'll be getting baptised this week.

That's basically what happened this week, just getting everyone ready for the baptisms. But every time I help someone take this step, my testimony grows more that this really is true that this is what we need to do to return to the presence of God.

I hope that you all have a wonderfull week!!

An awesome week!

October 13th, 2014

Yup! This week was pretty sweet! For a few reasons. First, so this weekend that just passed, we fasted again but as a zone to be able to follow through with our goal for 15 baptisms but I don't think we are going to be able because of some falt of faith in the zone which makes me a little sad. But, lets talk about good stuff. Soo the fast was also so that we could have the 5 baptisms that we were planning on having. And, it looks like we are going to have them this next sunday! I'm pretty excited. Theres only one of the 5 that is kindof ify and it's because she is having a little bit of problems not drinking coffee. But if she can not drink it this week, she'll be going in with the other 4.

Also, something that I learned yesterday made me very happy. Finally, the Jardin branch, where I was in Valle Hermoso was made into a Ward yesterday! And the stake president mentioned my name like a ton of times and wished that I could have been there. That was pretty cool. Then Hermana Morales called me today and told me how proud she was of me and the work that we did there. Ahh the glory days.. haha. But yeah, that just put the frosting on the cake.

So we also have some new people that are very promising. Maria is the sweetest old lady you've ever seen but she had cancer in her throat so she's like one of those people that need a machine to talk. But she's very humble and poor and the machine she has is like a big box but we don't even need to use it when we're teaching her. We can just understand her lips which is pretty cool. I've never been able to read lips in spanish but when we are talking with her it's like she's actually talking and we understand everything she's saying. But she has such a sweet spirit. I love visiting her! And she went to church yesterday and loved it!

The mission is pretty awesome though. I love being here and being able to help people and being remembered as someone that changed their life!

Hope you all have a wonderfull week and enjoy the cool weather up there! Love you all!

Elder Warren

General Conference!

October 6th, 2014

So we just had the last General Conference that I will see on the mission! Crazy. This week was kind of slow, because we went to Reynosa tuesday and wednseday. We only really worked thursday and Friday then the General Conference happened.

Well, one of the most exciting things is that we are getting ready for a 5 person baptism. All of them are part of the same family and they all went to conference sunday and we all fasted saturday to sunday so that they could get an answer. At the end of conference, they said that everything made a lot more sense, that as they heard the prophet speak, they felt something very different and at the end of it, they now believe that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet! That's the power of the General Conference! If any of you are curious, go check it out.  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/sessions/2014/10?lang=eng

So that was really exciting! I'm excited for them and we're working on other people that we have found on preparing them for baptism.

I know that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet called of God! Just the feeling I had Sunday while he was talking was amazing, indescribable. Just a feeling of sureness if that´s a word. But if any of you really want to know if he is a prophet of God, go listen to his talk that he gave, with real intentions to know if he is inspired of God, and I promise you that you will feel something that no other speach or talk can make you feel. If you don't believe me, try it yourselves!

Well, I hope that you all have a wonderfull week and Have lots of Fun!

Elder Warren

Staying with Elder Holman!

September 15th, 2014

So yeah, we got the transfers and Elder Holman and I are staying together!

Other good news, We had 6 investigators in sacrament meeting yesterday! Two of them always come but the 4 new ones were the sisters of a recent convert and their families. And they are really awesome! They are gonna get baptised, I can feel it!

Also, do you guys remember Eric from Valle Hermoso? The kid who had lots of problems with the word of wisdom? Well he's getting baptised this saturday! That's super awesome and I feel glad that I was able to help quite a bit with him. It feels special to see someone change that much. Because the last time I went to see him, he was asleep with a bottle of vodka in his hand so yeah. Pretty awesome. Elder Hancock is a beast.

So yeah, there's gonna be a new zone in Matamoros so that makes 3 zones in Matamoros. When I got to the mission, there was only 1. But today 30 new missionaries come to the mission and only 2 are leaving! That's 14 new areas in the mission!

But today is kind of crazy, we have to go buy bus tickets for all of the missionaries from Matamoros that are gonna travel tomorrow in intercambios so I gotta get going.

The mission is super awesome and I keep learning and keep growing. More than anything just gaining such a larger apreciation for the scriptures and the doctrine.

But have a great week everybody!

Love,
Elder Warren

Another spiritful week

September 8th, 2014

Well this was another pretty awesome week. We had the lidership counsel this past wednesday and we had a pretty awesome. I pretty much had a little bit of an apifany (I totally spelled that horribly but oh well). Moroni 7 talks a lot about faith and says that we can't have faith unless we have hope, and we don't have hope until we have meekness and humility. We then learn from Moroni 8 that meekness and humility comes from the remission of our sins, which comes from baptism and the reception of the gift of the holy ghost and before all that we need to repent. And once we've gone through this whole cycle we arive at a trully strong faith which leads to miracles, also in Moroni 7. So it kinda goes like this
Repentance-> Baptism/Gift of the Holy Ghost-> Meekness/Humility-> Hope-> Faith-> Knowledge/miricles/ministration of Angles

Pretty cool sequence there, huh? But You guys can go study that on your own if you want to learn more. Also my companion and I figured out in some companionship study that we were doing just how important light is. I would challenge all of you to focus your personal study of the scriptures this week on Light and learn as much as you can about it because it's necessary for exaltation!

Apolonia, the sister of the Hermana Hernandez came to church this sunday! I was so happy! She is progressing very well and we are really excited for her. We are also teaching her sister and her and her family are accepting us pretty well also which is super exciting!

What makes me sad is that this week is comming to a close and it's very probable that Elder Holman will be leaving in the transfers that are comming at the end of this week. It's been awesome being his companion. But my time is running out and I gotta go! So I'll talk to you guys next week and we're gonna know if I'm staying here, leaving, and if I'm gonna have another son!

Well love you all have a great week!

A spiritual week

September 1st, 2014

Well this week I´ve focused a little more than I have in the past just to always be worthy of the spirit. Because when you don´t have the spirit, you just aren´t as happy, but I feel very happy right now. One of the things that we did differently this week was our planning. I´ll be honest, this new way to plan is a pain, but it´s worth it. Where we normally struggle to get 20 lessons in a week, we had 28 this week. Where we normally get 5 or 6 new investigators, we got 11. Bassically we put a different person as a plan to go see in the same hour. So if the appointment isn´t there at 4, we have three other options of people to go find and teach in that hour. The first back up plan is to find a new investigator, then we look for one of the investigators that we have that aren´t progressing as well, then a less active, then if there´s still time, an active family to teach a quick lesson and ask for references. This has kept us pretty busy and a bit more focussed.

We´ve had some pretty awesome experiences in lessons that were very spiritual. The best investigator that we have right now her name is Apolonia and she´s having some problems because she doesn´t feel that she´s worthy to get an answer from God. But we had an awesome lesson about the gospel of Jesus Christ and explained repentance very well I think and the spirit was very strong there.

The time is escaping me and I want to write more but I can´t.. I love you all sooo very much. Hope you all have a wonderfull week!

Love,
Elder Warren

Another week down.

August 18th, 2014

Something that is like crazy to me, is that the sisters that were in my district in the MTC are in their last week or they are going home like tomorrow. Either way, it´s crazy to think that they started at the same time as me and are already finishing. I feel Glad that I still have more time as a missionary because I´m just starting to become a good missionaryand I don´t want to stop now that I know how to do it!

We had a good week Elder Holman. Sooo one of the investigators that we were teaching, Socorro, went to church for the first time yesterday! But afterwards she said that she liked her other church a little better. But we just need to explain why we do the things we do and she´ll understand.

Also, we have an investigator whos name is Carlos. His wife and two kids were baptised like 7 months ago and they all go to church, including Carlos, but he still hasn´t made the decision to get baptised. We think it´s because he´s afraid to tell his family and he also commented to us that he has a doubt about what happens with our spirits between death and the resurection. We answered his doubt pretty well I think but he still said that he needed some type of confirmation, like a dream or something. Soo my companion offered that we would do a fast everyone together. and saturday night, he had a dream! He dreamed of his brother who had passed away and that he was going to be sealed, but the dream didn´t finish. And he wasn´t happy with the dream because it didn´t finish. Then in elders quorum, we had the elders together with the high priests and the class was on salvation for the dead and it was a super awesome class, one of the best that I´ve heard while I´ve been on the mission. Soo right now, we´re going to go eat with them and see what went down cuz it´s time for him to get baptized. yeah.

But that´s about what happened this week hope you all have a wonderfull week! Love you guys!

Elder Warren

Seems like two days ago I was here.

August 25th, 2014

But seriously, time is going by so fast.
So, Socorro didn´t go to church this week. She told us she was going to Texas on Sunday but we walked by her house later that day and her car was totally there. But she´s kind of doubting a little and she´s dislexic so it´s a lot harder for her to read and understand what she´s reading but she´s not asking God either so that´s kind of a problem.

But! We´ve found some pretty awesome new people here! We found one that was a reference from the wife of the stake president. They´ve been friends since high school and the friend started going to a bible study class and the wife of the stake president basically said, why do you go there if they don´t have the authority? And her friend said, Why haven´t you told me that before?! Then we went and had an awesome lesson with her. She´s a teacher so she understands everything super quick. It was pretty awesome. She understood the apostasy and even said like, Yeah I always wondered why god just left the people on America without a prophet I guess this explains it!

We also found another new investigator that has potential, the sister of someone who was baptised a few months ago. We went with her and the sister who is now a member and it was a pretty good lesson. She has some potential.

I don´t know, I´m just enjoying the mission right now. I have an awesome companion that loves to work and I do as well so we´re always on the same page and I´m also learning a lot from him. I almost don´t want this transfer to end because I´m pretty sure that he is going to leave this area. But the mission goes on!

Well love you all, hope you have a great week!

Elder Warren

First week with Elder Holman!

August 11th, 2014

Dear family and friends,
This week was one of the funnest weeks I´ve had on the mission! I don´t even feel super stressed out being a zone leader. It was just fun! I feel like this is how the mission should be and it´s how I´ve felt with a couple other companions as well. We work hard, don´t get me wrong, it´s the hardest I´ve worked in a while, but we make the work fun. We just get along super well Elder Holman and I. He also has a girlfriend that´s waiting for him and he has more time that I do on the mission. I also learned that he plays LoL so we talk about that sometimes.
We´ve been teaching some people this week but none of them came to church. We´re gonna focus a lot on finding new people to teach, people that are going to come to church. I just feel so gratefull that I´m with someone that wants to work as much as I do but is also like chill and we can enjoy ourselves.
So yeah That was pretty much our week though, just enjoying the mission like one should! I need to take a picture with him so you can see who he is next week.

Well I hope that you all have a great week!!

Elder Warren

Zone Leader?!?!

August 4th, 2014

So we got transfers saturday and even though I was only here in Barrio Tecnologico for one transfer, I´m leaving! Elder Romano, my companion is going to train! Also my son, Elder Hancock is going to train!!! I´m so proud of him! Because it´s super early for him to train but that means that he´s a good elder! (wipes tear from cheek). But yeah, so Elder Romano is going to be in my zone, Also, an awesome Elder, Elder Solomon, is going to be my district leader! And I just did an interchange with Elder Solomon a few days ago haha. Also, Elder Clarke, from my district in Valle Hermoso is going to be in my zone! If you can´t tell, I´m pretty excited about the changes. Also My companion is going to be Elder Holman, another american! It´s going to be super fun! I remember that we had an interchange a couple weeks ago and we were talking about how awesome it would be to be companions, and now we are! Crazy!

The only sad part is that I didn´t last very long here in Tec. And I wasn´t able to baptise here. It´s the only area that I haven´t baptised in. But Hopefully I´ll make up for it in the ward where I´m going. Elder Holman is an excelent missionary so we´re gonna have an awesome time together.

It´s kind of interesting how after passing through hard times, have come better times and blessings. I´m not saying it wasn´t a blessing being with Elder Romano in this area, but it was a challenge. But I am very excited for the transfers we have.

Also, don´t worry, I´m not sick any more and I didn´t die. They gave me a bunch of meds and I healed up just fine.

Hope everything is going well at home and that you are also able to see the blessings that come after the hard times. That actually reminds me of one of my favorite scripture.s

For verily I say unto you, blessed is he that keepeth my commandments, whether in life or in death; and he that is faithfulin tribulation, the reward of the same is greater in the kingdom of heaven.
Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God concerning those things which shall come hereafter, and the glory which shall follow after much tribulation.
For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand.
Doctirne and Covenants 58:2-4
Well I hope you all have a wonderfull week and count your blessings!

A week of trials!

July 28, 2014

Well first I want to apologize for the horrible short email that I wrote last week. I´m starting this email earlier so that that doesn´t happen again.

Well I´ll start off with the good things. we found a good family this week, their name is the Gonzalez family. They´re two parents and a son that live there. we were only able to talk with the two parents but the were very receptive to what we taught. The only problem is that the dad works on sunday. So until he changes that and is able to go to church, he won´t be able to progress.
We also found a young man whose name is Osiel who is the helper of the father in the catholic church but he was super interested in what we were teaching. He actually confessed a question that he had always had which is there only one god but all the bibles depending on the version, are different? So then obviously, we explained the first lesson which explains what is a prophet, what is apostasy, that Jesus Christ organized the church in it´s perfect form in the Earth, and that after his death occured another apostasy and that´s why there are different bibles and different religeons. He was very interested but then his mom entered and basically tried to tell us that he doesn´t want to listen to us because he is catholic. Then we asked him if he still wants to listen to us and said that he does that it´s very interesting and his mom said well he knows best.

The frustrating part was that many of the people we had found in the weeks before that we thought were very prepared and ready to progress, we couldn´t find the whole week. That was kind of frustrating. Then on friday I got sick. It started out with cold symptoms and a head ache, then saturday I started to have a fever but I kept working and took day quill throughout the day but when I got home took my temperature and it was at 103. sooo I called the Hermana Morales but I had to wait until sunday at 5pm to get medicine because I need to take an anti biotic also. But now I´m all drugged up, still sick, but at least my temperature is under control.

Eh well I guess the good things kind of outweighed the bad, but I did feel bad this week that we didn´t have any investigators in the sacrament meeting. But we´re going to work much harder this week to help the people that we are teaching but I think more than anything, to find new investigators that are going to progress

Well hope that you all have a wonderfull week this week and don´t worry about me, I´ll be fine!

A trialing week

July 21st, 2014

So I don´t have much time to write so this is gonna be a little short.

I feel like this week was a bit difficult. One, for the work we have. We´ve found quite a few people super prepared to hear the gospel, but they´re not progressing as fast as we want them to be. Mostly because none of them could come to church yesterday. And two, sometimes my companion frustrates me. I try to not let it show but I feel like I´m always dragging him around, like he doesn´t always want to work as much as I do wich is a bit frustrating sometimes. But President Morales told me that I have to help him and it´s what I´m trying to do.

Also, I was kind of reflecting on my district and how much it´s changed since I got here and this moment and really it´s improved a whole lot. We have improved a whole lot. And also the zone leaders told me the other day that the mission president is trusting in me to lift up this district. I´m feeling a bit more pressure but it´s all good. Next week will be a better email but now I gotta go.

This week

July 14th, 2014

Well, I don´t know how to explain too well this week except by saying that it was a little frustrating. At the begining of the week, we found some super prepared people to listen to us. Then one of them changed their house without telling us where they went, and the other, we couldn´t find all week. But we finally found her and put an appointment with her for this next week. No one came to church except one sister that always comes but can´t get baptised yet because she needs to fix something with her divorce so she can get married.

But I don´t want you to think that my week was horrible, It was pretty fun. Thursday was my companion´s birthday so we ate lots of cake. Also we were able to find these new people that I just mentioned that seem like they are going to be able to progress. We are also in the process of reactivating a family that wasn´t comming to church. The two daughters are now reactivated and next sunday their mom and brother will be also.

Soooo yeah. Basically that´s what happened this week. But next week will be much better. Love you all and hope that you are all enjoying yourselves!

Week 2 in Matamoros!

July 7th, 2014

Well, this week was pretty cool. We got to know some new people, some of them we really think are going to be baptised soon, but we always need to find more! We found one lady, her name is Tania. She´s catholic and her husband is a less active (they´re not really married though, a problem much too common here in méxico). But she´s seen missionaries for years but they´ve never talked to her! So we had a lesson with her this week and it was awesome! Before she just kind of believed in the catholic church for tradition, but we explained and helped her with her doubts about baptism, because she was thinking of baptising her daughter. Then I asked her a question, I don´t even remember what it was, but she just started crying explaining how much she loves her daughter and how greatfull she is for her. The spirit was super strong in the room and we invited her to be baptised and accepted. When the people are feeling the spirit, they are going to accept the baptismal invitation because the spirit is telling them that they need to say Yes, and then they have a suprised look on their face because they don´t know why they said yes, but that kind of happened in the lesson.

It makes me happy to realize that I´m changing people lives for the better. That I´m not changing the way that they think and believe, but that I´m just an instrument in God´s hands that brings the spirit, and then the spirit changes them.

One of the things I was studing this week is how we can be teachers like Christ. And it´s really interesting to study the gospels in the New Testament and really concentrate in what Jesus taught and how he taught it, and then copy him basically. One of the coolest things that I´ve started doing is using examples and parables. The parables I´m still working on, I haven´t developed one really good but examples are anything things like _______ is like _____________. Like, Faith is like a seed. Putting something that is hard to understand, that you can´t see or touch or feel, into something that you can tought and see. In that way, the people are able to visualize a principle that otherwise is very difficult to understand. I think there´s a quote from Einstein, I don´t remember it exactly, but it says something like If you can´t explain something simply, it´s because you really don´t understand it. So yeah. I´m still working on understanding things better and as I do, I´m able to help others understand better as well.

My companions pretty cool. We get along great, just that sometimes I want to work more than he does so I feel like there´s times when I´m dragging him around a little but other than that we´re doing pretty well. His teaching is really good as well.

Well that´s about all I got for this week, I´ll be writting you next week!!

First Week in Matamoros with Elder Romano!

June 30th, 2014

So this first week was super interesting and a bit dificult. One, I had to get used to walking all the time again and it´s super frustrating after being on a bike having to walk because it´s so slow! Also it was difficult because we basically opened the area which means that no one was working here before so we didn´t have any families to teach when I got here so since I´ve gotten here it´s been just looking for people. It´s been pretty challenging, but nothing I can´t handle! There´s some pretty great people here and some pretty cool families that we´re seeing.

One cool story that happened this week is that we decided to go contact a certain area and the very first person we foun was a lady washing outside her house, so we went and talked to her. She sounded nice but told us that she didn´t have time in that moment to talk with us (which happens pretty often and usually means, I don´t want to talk with you.) but we put an appointment to come back sunday, so we went back yesterday and found her and started teaching her and found out some needs that she has and we were able to help her out. It wasn´t a normal lesson that we would have the first time, but we taught a person, not a lesson. It was pretty awesome. I have high hopes for her, just that she wants to start slow.

Well, there really isn´t more time to write, next week I´ll include a little more about whats going on here in Matamoros!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Transfers to Matamoros, and Barrio Jardín! (Jardín Ward)

June 23rd, 2014

Sooo I´m going to Matamoros! The Ward where I´m going is called the Tecnológico and my companion is Elder Romano, and Elder Neidert trained him. Elder Neidert was in the MTC with me so I´m going to be with his son haha. That should be pretty cool! I´m pretty excited for the transfers but also kind of sad. Mostly because I´ll miss Angelita. She´s one of those people that I feel like I´ve known her from somewhere but I never have seen her, in this life maybe. It still gets me that it´s probable that in the pre-mortal life, I told her that I´m gonna come and share the gospel with her and her family. But she does feel like a mom or grandma, it´s awesome.

But there will be lots of things waiting for me there in Matamoros I´m sure. Hopefully I find more people that are prepared to accept the góspel, I´m sure I will.

Sooo Jardín branch is ready to be a Ward. We did the last of the work Sunday and the membership is at 355. We started out at 666 so yeah. We did work. And the members don´t always want to help too much so we do a lot of the work but that´s alright. I feel like I could be a good secretary when I get home haha now that I know how it Works and everything. The sad part is that I won´t be able to see it become a ward. But it´s okay, I was just here to get them ready, not to see it happen.

I feel like I´ve grown quite a bit here in this área, having to be senior companion, training, and district leader. I feel like I´ve had the most success since I´ve started and I hope it only keeps growing!

Well, Times up for me,
Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Just Another Week

June 16th, 2014

So, it´s hot here in México! haha. But besides that, everything is going really well! I really love this area that I´m in, like more tan any other area I think. I also love my companion, probably more than any other companion I´ve had. I don´t want things to change but I feel like they are going to change soon.

This week was pretty good. We found some new people, a couple of them that said that they had gone to church before or as a kid which was kind of interesting. We also had a couple lession that were kind of frustrating because they let us in, we gave the whole lesson and then at the end they told us that they don´t really want to learn anything they were just being nice. Kind of a waste of time but I guess if we´re teaching the gospel, it´s never really a waste of time.

But something I´ve noticed is that I am enjoying the mission much more than I was before. I kind of regret that I didn´t enjoy the mission as much when I started. Maybe it was because I still didn´t speak well the language, or for my companion, but I´ve been enjoying all of my time here in this area and it kind of makes me sad to leave but I know that I have to go to be able to learn something else and maybe enjoy the mission even more.

Hope that everything is going great there at home and that you´re enjoying the not so hot weather!

Much love,
Elder Warren

Tacuache!

June 16th, 2014

Tacuache is what you see here. Opposum. Or something like that. I don´t remember how to spell in English anymore.

We were studying in the morning when the member that lived below our house called us and said ´´tacuache! Come down! (in a spanish accent. He knows a Little bit of english and always uses it with us) Picture!´´ So we came down and took a picture of the tacuache. Then we fed it to Toby the chocolate lab. We had to kill it because they eat the chickens that he has.
Eventful morning though.

Baptism and only 9 months left!

June 9th, 2014

That´s right folks, to celebrate 15 months in the mission we had a baptism! yeah. Another one. We´re bapising machines here. No but Angelita was just a miracle. It just made me so happy to see how she progressed and changed. She just accepted everything so quick and made the changes quickly too. She was a super coffee adict too but she gave it up super quick. Even got rid of the coffee maker haha. And next to be baptised is her family that are in the pictures. It´s amazing how much you can grow to love someone in only the course of a month without knowing them and the amount of trust that she has with us in incredible. She´s even told us things that she hasn´t told her friend that introduced her to the gospel.

The mission is something incredible. I also have grown super close to my companion, Elder Hancock. This is the longest I´ve ever been with one single companion but for that I have grown very close to him and he´ll be a friend for life I´m sure, not to mention an excelent missionary. nah just kiddin, but seriously he´s a very good missionary as well.

So it´s pretty awesome here in Valle Hermoso and I don´t really want to leave but I feel that I´m going to be leaving here in two weeks.

It´s also kind of hot here. Like always over 90 degress in the day. All kinds of heat. But you just kind of get used to sweating all the time.

But now it´s time to go for this guy. Hope you all have an excelent week and I´ll talk to ya next monday!

Love,
Elder Warren
